I have been wasting a lot of time lately. Time well wasted, but wasted nonetheless.

Yesterday I went swimming, partly motivated by a sincere desire for some nice Texas sunlight, and partly motivated by shame at the prospect of either working or playing my way through a nice Saturday. It was well that I did go, despite being very late for the organized trip to Zilker Park, because I met Peter, who subsequently brought me to nickjong's place to watch Firefly.

Oooooh, shiny. I likes me some Firefly, also Firefly. I could express my opinions in more and varied words, but there are other people who have seen it who could expound upon its joys more eloquently. Suffice it to say that I consider it on par with Babylon 5, which is no small praise.

I decided to do some culinary experimentation today, so I made broccoli tempura and lemon chicken (of the panko-crumb-fried-plus-lemon-sauce variety). The tempura was at best mediocre. I just can't get the batter to be all fluffy and puffy like it's supposed to. Control of texture has always been one of my cooking weaknesses, oh well. The lemon chicken, however, was quite good; I was very impressed with how well panko works for frying. I'm itching to try shrimp sometime.

I had some panko, egg wash etc left over, so I peeled up an apple and make panko-fried apple slices. With powdered sugar and cinnamon, those were a reasonable comestible too.

My housemate Justin brought Firefly DVD's with him...him, Dan, and I only have one episode left, which we're probably going to be watching tomorrow...Curse the Establishment and its poor choice of TV shows to subsidise!
