It's me again. Got a lot on my mind lately, or rather, the things that were on my mind before are bothering me more. Relationships (of all kinds), career, life, the usual.

The interview meme is very interesting, and I might soon get on the conga line for that one. I still haven't completed my own thread, and I have come to realize that asking or answering specific questions would be soo much easier than freeform responses. Oh well. The trouble is, at this point, I'm reaching a group of people that I just don't know as well, and so I can't say profound or meaningful things, and it's just hard to come up with non-trivial responses.

It has helped me to realize that I need to get to know people better. All of them, all the time, ever :). It kinda sucks though, because my primary way of getting to know people better is one-on-one or one-on-few, in person; opportunities for such are getting rarer and rarer as the semesters roll on. File this under the group of "things on my mind" as mentioned above.

Oh, anyone know where I can get "Bring me to life" by Evanescence (sp?)? I would try Kazaa, but it is not within my authority to install it on the computer I have here, since I consider it suspicious software.

It could be a reference to a song about a car race, but I somehow doubt it:

One of the things I had to learn when I was signing yearbooks senior year of high school is that sometimes, you don't know the person well enough to say anything with meaning, and your best bet is to write down "I'm Mike. I have a hat.". Because that's how they're going to remember you, anyway. Well, not you, so much as me. Anyway, I'm not sure that yearbooks are the same as interview thread things, but there you go.

I already have a group of interview questions to answer myself, but my eternal "1-2 days away from finishing rough draft of paper" status has interfered so far.

With regards to Kazaa...you can try Kazaa Lite; it is somewhat less suspect than the real deal. I suggest frequent toastings via AdAware to bolster that.

I'm starting to think that we need a Bloodgod, but for music. Anyone interesting in cobbling a box together?

I've gotten Kazaa to work without suck through careful monitoring of what it was installing, removing nonessentials afterwards (there are general directions on the internet, I think I only had to do one), and having the whole thing behind a good firewall. It's really amusing when its ad page shows a "cannot connect" error message, but sharing still works fine. This was before I knew about Kazaa Lite, however.

I also think that a communal music server is in order. I've got a public music share (well, now it's FTP) on my desktop already that I'm willing to give out the guest password to, but it's not a full-time server or a static IP, so I would support the establishment of a general-use music server in the Den or the KGB office... however, I don't think it should be as touted as Bloodgod. I just don't want to deal with the bandwidth wankery.

I don't think it should be as touted as BG either, just something that we keep to share/get music easily. I imagine less whoring out/giving accounts to people than BG does, partially to avoid bandwith issues, and partially to avoid dealing with bandwith issues. Personally I'm getting really annoyed at the paranoia the other admins have towards campus shutting them down, leading them to *completely* fuck over about half the users, if not more. I don't want crap like that; I just want to have nice happy access to a huge amount of music, and let people I know, and know well, have the same.

But we can discuss this more when I get to PGH again. With great luck this will be early August, just in time for people to help me weld a costume together for Otakon.

_Weld_ together? What are you planning?

(of course, I'm planning animatronics, if I get my act together and find the right alloy....)

WinMX works pretty well for me. No ads. The selection isn't perfect and the download is ~3K/sec, but if you leave it on overnight it will keep trying and eventually finish.

Eh. Interviews are like honesty, except filtered twice again.

I don't. then you gotta get out the plunger, and if you arent careful you get toilet water all over the floor.

I suppose that's what I get for not eating enough fiber. *sigh*

Greatest song ever. They've been playing it over and over on PLJ so I'm starting to get a little sick of it, but fortunately I downloaded it like a week ago a little bit before I got sick of it, so I'll have it in a few months when I've recovered from the overload.

It's perfectly valid to give trivial responses to people you know trivially. And knowing people trivially is not bad unless you want to know them better. And I sound like you.
