Durotar. They got em all over the place!
Mar. 13th, 2005 03:30 amIt would appear that it's been about three weeks since my last post. Well, that happens, and you know it. I make no apologies, at least this time. Some mildly interesting things have been going on; a summary follows.
I have been keeping the 1900-2359 rule with varying degrees of success. On some scattered days, I have exceeded the 2359 bound by some amount, varying within the 15-90 minute range. While I would eventually like these anomalies to disappear, they're tolerable for now, as my waking and arrival on campus is largely time-insensitive. On the other hand, my next goal will be some sort of fixation point for waking time, as oversleeping has plagued me for my entire life. For once I would like to be the Sandman's master, rather than the reverse.
I started a character on Scarlet Crusade with loungefolk. Mijuda, troll warrior. Quite a belle, as trolls go. She's currently level 30, which is decent progress for the time invested. Warrior is a very different play experience from priest: highly tactical, toe-to-toe, minimal downtime. Quite fun. I also have Ember, a nubbly 9 tauren shaman on Eldre'Thalas, whom I play for variety and to keep abreast of what my brother and his friends are up to.
I have also been playing Miriel intermittently, and some interesting things have transpired on Bleeding Hollow. So, at about the time I started playing on Scarlet Crusade, the core players from my guild Majestic on BH (those being my brother and his friends) moved over to Eldre'Thalas. I assumed that the move was a partial one, and that we would all still be playing our mains every now and then. For the first week and a half, I was leveling Mijuda pretty fiercely, and it looked like Dominus (their guild on thalas) was pretty serious and taking all their time. Wondering how the rest of the guild (Cryselle, Rathor, Shadowstrike, Shock) was doing, I logged back on as Miriel.
The guild had imploded. Apparently, when Maugis made his alt and we all moved, he never told anyone what was going on. From the perspective of the ones who were still on BH, half the guild just disappeared. I had quietly fretted that he might do something like that, comma damnit. So, angry with the state of affairs (and rightfully so), Crys/Rath/Shadow had all quit the guild. Through a combination of explanation and pacification, I whittled their rage down to be directed only at Maugis, rather than at the whole chunk of the guild that had gone missing (as I argued that it was the GM's job to keep the guild aware of things). Later that day, Maugis logged on, was basically like "shrug, whatever", handed me guildmaster, and left. I disbanded the guild.
Yesterday I joined Halcyon, a guild we had been instancing with pretty frequently before the alt-split. They's good people, and I've had a good time with them every time I bring Miriel on.
My academic life has also recently recovered from some chaos and despondency. After a lengthy period of confusion and waning motivation, I have my feet on the ground again, and have made noticeable progress on the vObj/FOP project. In a timetable of less than two weeks, I will hopefully have the major proofs and technical results complete, and move on to the explanatory aspects of the paper. I am all but certain that the paper will be up, running, and of publishable quality by the end of the semester. Similarly, I was in a state of discomfort about my term project in Intelligent Robotics; a simple reimplementation of Philipona/O'Regan didn't seem very compelling. I now have a much better direction, that being the comparison of the Philipona/O'Regan sensorimotor learning model to that of Pierce and Kuipers, with an eye for isomorphisms. It has a much more PL flavor now, and will better leverage my expertise.
And now, in mere hours, I am leaving for New Orleans (not that silly, stuffy Old Orleans!) for a week. This will be the first time I have ever taken a Spring Break in the popularly understood sense of vacation-somewhere-interesting, instead of going home for the week or working straight through it. Be Ye Warned: I will be Off The Internets until Friday night. (Though yes, I'll have my phone)
