The Once and Future Dave
May. 27th, 2003 08:56 pmWell, I'm back online.
Friday's trip home was interesting. I arrived at the airport, and reached my departing gate with more than sufficient punctuality. Then my flight was delayed.
Then it was delayed again.
Then it was delayed again.
75 minutes later than scheduled, we left Pittsburgh. This wouldn't have been so bad, except that I knew it meant missing my connecting flight in Detroit. (I was briefly reminded of an Apples to Apples game where I judged 'Detroit' to most accurately map to 'Hopeless').
However, the moment I stepped off the plane, I was handed a packet with:
* Rebooked tickets for a later flight
* A 5 minute prepaid phone card
* A $5 meal voucher
* A $35 coupon for later ticket purchases, and
* A nice boilerplate apology
That was really impressive, and summarily restored my faith in Northwest. So, after an extended stay in Detroit, I finally got on my flight to Providence and then my mom drove me home. Success.
Woke up brutally early on Saturday (though
dracai and
myygrane had it worse).
dracai drove me to Bradley Int'l, where we picked up
mygrane and met
buoren. So, there's this interesting little fiat of geography, where Kevin's house in CT is a few blocks from Julie's house. So Kevin had planned to have lunch and possibly a movie with Julie while he was in town. So he and Mike and Christine go to pick her up and bring her back to his house.
As far as Julie knew, I was still in Pittsburgh. Until she walked in the door and saw me standing there, grinning like an idiot. That was very amusing.
Oh, and Kevin is apparently 23 and gay now. Also amusing. :-)
That was a fun day. We went to Cosi for lunch, very yuppie but also pleasantly eclectic. Then the movies. We rolled dice to decide between Matrix Reloaded and Bruce Almighty. We rolled double 5s. Thus we saw X-Men 2, which was good. Yay for poorly specified decision procedures. Then Mike and Christine returned unto Boston, and the rest of us retrieved Julie's friend Erika (partially to add a wheel), went to the mall, enjoyed selves. Played Trivial Pursuit, further enjoyed selves. I crashed at Kevin's and everyone else dispersed.
Next day was Mike's graduation cookout. So much food! It was quite a good time. I learned that Mike's sister and mother are also of the roleplaying persuasion, which was surprising but certainly made sense. Played a very amusing game of Mao that night with Kevin and Christine and Mike. Crank! I would love to see Mao, or more likely its variants, become a more popular lounge game.
And the last few days have been uneventful. Drifting a little, doing various small tasks, slowly prepping for the larping event this weekend (Storm Wall).
