I'll be in the burgh in a few days.
Neat thing: Apparently, Harper has invited Jay Misra (the guy who invented Orc, and my pseudo-other-advisor) to give a couple of talks at CMU, on thursday and friday. This coincides exactly with my visit, which is neat (and means I can do front-row support during the talk), but it also coincides exactly with Carnival. To counteract the downward pressure that will exert on attendance, I'm going to just put this here link out there and invite you to come learn more about Orc from the man himself on Friday afternoon, if you are willing and able.
Jay also claims that there's a talk on Thursday, but I can't find it on the schedule of events.
Reciprocally, there appear to be some cool people coming to Austin this week. Arvind (Nirav's advisor at MIT) is giving a talk tomorrow afternoon; apparently Arvind and Jay know each other. Also, Luis von Ahn is giving a faculty candidate talk on Tuesday. While I consider the chances that he would actually take a UT offer very slim (he's interviewing at 9 of the top ten schools), it would be totally batshit awesome if he did come here. :)
Unrelated: It's that time of year again. Has anyone brought TI3 yet? And who wants to play?
