CMU CS is indeed results-driven, and robotics even more so. Take a peek at CMU psychology (Kotovsky is interested in some of these topics, I took his Consciousness & Cognition class). Also look at Univ of Arizona; there's a prof there named Chalmers who's investigating similar topics.
